Candid shot from Aion photoshoot _Last year was an interesting one indeed. It was the first year that I didn't really accomplish my cosplay goal of creating my set list of costumes. I was bogged down with school work which made me learn how to make due with little time. I only made 5 out 7 costumes I planned. Even with that in mind and the horrible weather, I still had a great year cosplaying. This blog will be a summary of last year's highlights and lowlights. Blog Highlights: See how much it costs to be a traveling cosplayer; my favourites from costumes, props and conventions; a round up of features and awards; a good commission year; and a look to 2012.

They sneak up on you! It was my first year at Youma and I had a good time. All my misfortunes were not con related, instead it happened whenever I left the convention center. Detroit cabs suck and the Holiday Inn has seen better days. The convention has the feel of a small convention but had many attendees, which is no surprise that they are expanding to an extra venue next year. I will likely come back next year, so long as I convince a few more friends to attend. We lost a few to various reasons at the last minute. They were missed. Youmacon Highlights: Miss January, creative costumes, cool photos, nice weather, confusing venue, cabby drama, hangouts, and great rave. My Yoruichi costume worn on Friday I don't know what would be the unofficial name of Otk this year. Maybe "I know you Con" since it was a barrage of familiar faces and friends all weekend. The weekend had a few hiccups, but overall it was a great experience and I learned a lot since it was my first time judging a masquerade. Here's the brief: Cool costumes, good friends, judging is hard, notes on judging, artist alley hiccups and triumphs, Yaya Han & Marie Claude, & smelly bus. Me & Alphonse statue in DR Siren-con is the name I dubbed it for the constant ringing in your ear from emergency services always being on call. Sweat-con, could work just as well for the steamy hot weather we had all weekend. But who could really complain when you get dat ice cold watur and it's only one dollur. Overall Otakon was nice for meeting new and old faces. For my second year visiting I enjoyed it, not as much as the last. Here is the breakdown of my Otakon : Roaches, rats, heat, ice cold water, I'm on a boat!, fangirl moments and photoshoot. Read more to learn about my weekend adventure in Baltimore. |
