Fountain in the hotel It was my first time at Katsucon and it was a costume whirlwind. There were so many things to see. I was stuck at my artist table for most of the weekend but I still had a great time. I wasn’t able to finish my Cruella in time but I am more than satisfied with my Hana cosplay. Here are the details... Pre-con It took over 18 hours of transit for Kudrel and myself to get to Washington DC for Katsucon. Luckily we can keep ourselves entertained for the drive. I was still working on my Cruella costume and I somehow overcame my car sickness to sew in the car. Friday M-Squaredphotography I was supposed to wear Cruella Deville this day but after staying up till 3:30 and still nowhere near completing the monstrous wig, I decided to give up. Instead I wore my backup costume Sakura from TRC. I was at my artist alley table for the bulk of the day. Then I escaped to meet up with M-Squared Photography and hung out at the Crunchyroll booth, since I am an ambassador. The was a little drama regarding the BBYO, a jewish youth convention, being held in the same venue. The famous gazebo was closed off, leading to some crowding issues and disgruntled cosplayers and photographers. Luckily the area was partially opened up the next day, which took care of most of the issues. However there were some clashes between the groups. Some of the youths were verbally abusive (and rumors are circulating about a case of physical abuse) The night was left for last minute adjustments to Hana from Gate7. Saturday Photo by Ger Tysk - more coming soon I wore Hana from Gate 7 on Saturday. Somehow everything came together on this costume. I cut and styled the wig in the morning within 10 minutes. The costume fit and sat perfectly on me even though it was the first time I wore everything at once. Jack Lui was my first shoot for the day, and later I shot with Ger Tysk (photo on the left). I even got in some pics with Anna Fischer and some video with Andy. Three kimonos, body paint, and heelless shoes did not make me the most mobile cosplayer, so I took it easy for the day, and I unfortunately couldn’t snap that many photos. I hung out in my hotel room with my roomies VickyBunnyAngel and Ackson for most of the night.
Sunday My AA table with alexboake.com Casual day - because I didn’t want to rush Cruella in the end and I already got some great photos of my other costumes. I got to catch up with ShuShuWafflez, Serenity-Sama, Kudrel and my friend Andy. It was nice meeting some new people or online acquaintances for the first time. I don't know if I will be back next year, but I sure enjoyed my time here this year. Cosplayer Photos
