Wiggity Wiggity Wack!Back in my day... maybe I should start all these segments with that line to really emphasize that I've been here for awhile.
This week I'm looking back at how the use of wigs has changed in the past 10 years for cosplayers. I went from "au naturale" to almost mandatory wig purchases for every project. We've come a long way costumers, so let's look back. For more info on the costumes shown, visit my Costume Page. ![]() I had a brief stint at Ottawa Comiccon 2014, here are the highlights. Friday I made it in just in time to run my Troubleshooting panel at 4pm with Detailed-Illusions. It was a packed room and I’m glad people were able to get some aching cosplay questions answered. I then attended the Improve your way to better cosplay panel at 5pm with a friend I made at last year’s ComicCon. At 6pm we went to Calssara’s Cosplay on Stage panel. Afterwards we briefly chatted with her and Elffi afterwards. I got my first ever cosplay print. I love her Saber. One of my favourite costumes of hers. Calamity and I spent the rest of the evening wandering around the event then called it a night. ![]() Saturday The plan was to arrive at 11am for Calssara and Elffi’s “Cosplay around the World” panel, but in reality it didn’t happen. My bus got stuck in con traffic for over a half-hour on a stretch of road that normally takes 2 minutes to drive down. The driver was nice enough to let us off to walk. Ten minutes later we made it to the venue after slipping down a hill and crossing a ditch. The venue was on lock down when I reached the door because of missing children so I spent another 10-20 minutes outside. I’m not complaining about the process, I’m very glad the children were found, I’m venting about the poor timing of it all. In the end, I totally missed the panel. I proceeded to spent the rest of the day hanging out with Calamity by snaking through the packed and slow moving dealer’s room and looking for the few available spaces to sit down. We wrapped up the day by visiting Calssara and Elffi’s table. Then we called it in early (sfter I bought candied apples) to free ourselves from our costumes and to have some good food off site. ![]() This was my first Costume Con, my first costuming conference, and I made my first original costume. Costume con was a feast for the eyes and mind especially if you are looking see and learn about new techniques. Next time I attend this event I plan on attending many more panels. I was so busy. It was an exhausting weekend but I had a great time and I look forward to attending it again. I may have to wait 3 years till it returns to Toronto but my friends and I are already brainstorming ideas. ![]() After two cancelled flights I finally made it to DC on Friday evening (instead of Thursday morning) to attend the event. Katsucon was a bit of blur since everything happened so fast. It was whirlwind of seeing old friends and making a few new ones like Keren Lin ;), and photoshoots. I really feel like I missed out this year since I didn't have time to settle in as I arrived nor did I get any time to attend panels and events. Friday I got settled into the hotel with my roomies, got dinner, got my badge and slept I arrived. Saturday I took my time to get my Tera Castanic ready in the morning. (A new costume page will be up shortly after I accumulate some photos and doa write-up). It is such an uncomfortable costume that is super impractical. I am so grateful for all the people that helped me through the weekend. I started the day (at 2pm :p) with a shoot with SoulFire Photography, quickly followed by another with Anna Fischer and then some video with Andy of OTL Productions. I ran into Elysiam and did a brief and frigid shoot with the setting sun outside. Saturday night was pretty mellow after trying to get into a restaurant for a while and ending up at a good Mexican place. I spent the rest of the night packing and having a drink with my roommates. Sunday I wore my Cruella De Vil, a costume I was supposed to complete last year for Katsucon. I spent an hour or two helping out at the Crunchyroll booth. I got to meet a fellow ambassador Ani-Mia before getting lunch and shooting for a second time with Andy. The rest of the day was spent saying goodbye to everyone. And just like that, my day was over and I was back to the airport. Luckily there were no delays on my way back home. Overall it was short but sweet. I always enjoy the collection of beautiful costumes at Katsucon. Looking at all the beautiful photos and videos being released really inspires me to create more Here are my few photos. I couldn’t take any over the weekend since I had gloves on for both of my costumes ![]() My first convention of the year! This will be brief since I was only at the con for a few hours on Saturday because I had a family event in the evening. I arrived after 10 o’clock with Cosplay Calamity and I quickly put on the rest of my Cruella costume. Plunge necklines and frigid weather do not work well together. I threw on my heels and my faux fur jacket and realize I forgot my satin gloves. It seems like I am cursed to forget one minor but noticeable costume item at every event I attend for the last few months. I got to say hi to a few friends before running off with Belziir Photography for a shoot. I got to catch up with more friends and devour a delicious crepe lunch before heading into photoshoot number two with Naredo Cosplay Photography. I wrapped up the afternoon by visiting some friends participating in and organizing the masquerade. I really wish I could have seen it, because I heard some skits were great! I look forward to seeing the results of the photoshoots since Cruella was a year in the making and I had to restart the costume so many times. |
