TERA - Castanic (Leather Armour)
Worn at:
Katsucon 2014 - Washington DC
Description:
Wig: I used a silver Cady from Arda. I added some extra wefts for some fullness to the front bangs. The spikes are styled with Got2Be glues gel and freezing spray.
Horns: These were made with craft foam encased in Worbla, attached to a headband.
Collar: The collar base is wonderflex. It is covered with pleather and red satin. The charm is made of worbla and a plastic skull.
Top flap: I made it out of pleated pleather. The red details are hand painted using Martha Stewart acrylic. The ornate beads were made with worbla and the smaller diamond one were purchased and hand-stitched.
Back Flaps: These were made of pleather with a layer of thick vinyl to keep them stiff. The red detail was also hand painted with Martha Stewart acrylic. The are hooked onto the halter-back brastrap. The charms are made of worbla.
Jacket/gloves/shorts: All were made using spandex (actionwear) since I could cut into it without worrying about fraying.
Tights: I gradient dyed a pair of red tights and added hand drawn spiralling details with a fabric Sharpie. I made tattoo stencils and transferred them onto a pair of tights with the Sharpie.
Makeup: I used prosthetic faun ears instead of elf ears.
Armour: All of the armour is foam encased in Worbla. The pauldrons were originally knee pads while the gauntlets were yoga mats. All of the skulls were once Halloween decorations. The roses on the gauntlets are friendly plastic and I airbrushed a little red onto the roses. I used a metallic black spraypaint with black matte paint to dark wash. Everything was sealed with a layer of PlastiDip. The pauldrons are either sewn or pinned to my top or bra straps. The gauntlets are held on by an elastic strap on the forearm and a leather strap at the wrist.
The claws were made of wonderflex and glued to the gloves.
Modifications: I decided to use a bra and 3 straps as my base to keep everything in place and hold down one armour piece. I decided on metallic black instead of flat black for the armour because all the detail would be lost.
