Katsucon 2023 - Washington Otakuthon 2024 - Montréal Description: Wig: It's a Greta in silver from Arda Wigs. Hat: I drafted a pillbox hat pattern and made it with faux fur on the outer and polyester satin for the lining, with buckram for structure. I added some embellishments with rhinestones, ribbons and hand made pom-poms. Jacket: I reused a self made pattern from my Sakizo Mousse costume for the body of the jacket and added sleeves. It's made with taffeta and has hand stitched regular and hand painted gold lace attached. Fur Trim: I made fur cylinders stuffed with with batting to made the collar and cuffs and using polyester satin for the inner parts which would be in contact with my skin. This makes it more comfortable and cooler to wear. The cuffs are hand tacked to the jacket. Dress: I used McCalls 7320 as the base pattern. I extended the train and added gussets to the side seams for a fuller skirt. The outer layer is white taffeta with a cream faux suede inner layer which give it it's nice creamy colour. For structure and fit there is an inner corset mini dress made of beige twill with boning. There is also a synthetic lining for the skirt. The dress zips up the back. I bought a 6 layer hoopskirt from AliExpress and cut off the top layers and attached it with grosgrain ribbon to a self-made boned twilled belt. For the fur trim at the base to keep it shape and not have too much weight it is filled with foam pipe insulation cut into smaller pieces to allow for more movement. Batting and fabric scraps from the project were used in the gaps. It was had stitched to the dress. The front panel is a collection of trim, ribbon, layers, faux pearls, and rhinestone thrown together. I got some lace appliques from AliExpress. I also made the filigree detail with hot glue and molds. I also cast my own gem with iridescent glitter. I decided not to make the vanilla bean detail since I figured long brown pieces would distract from the overall look. I added two tones rhinestone on some of the fur accents for the "salt." Purse: I got a purse handle base from Fabricland and painted it gold. I made the bag out of matching taffeta and embellishments. |
