Worn at:
Colossalcon 2015 - Sandusky, Ohio
Description:
Wig: Vickybunnyangel let me use her black Luthien from Arda.
Headpiece: I cut a small piece of yoga mat foam as a base then added on layer of Worbla on the back to stabilize it then attach it to a headband. Then I painted the piece gold with gesso then coated it in clear silicone caulk before encrusting it with adventurine and citrine stones (Same technique as my Earth Dragon costume).
Bra: I bought a white bra from Ardene's for cheap then I dyed it green with iDye poly. The resulting colour was not what I was expecting but it was good enough. Decorating the bra was fun, I applied small flat rhinestone with tweezers and GemTac glue.
Tail & Fluke: Ooooo, The fun part. I bought a tightly packed sequin fabric from Mood. They ran out of the blue/green so I bought the green/gold instead since it matched all the green in her costume anyways. Turns out the sequin also shined blue depending on the angle. It also bought it because it was stretch sequin, however, it didn't stretch width wise which completely defeats the purpose if you ask me. I hand sewed the tail in the car on the way to the convention. I installed 2 zippers: one short one at the waist and a long one from the knees down so that I could walk around between shoots. The tail attached to the fluke by velcro. the waist band is some leftover spandex from my Takane costume that was decorated with the same rhinestones used on the bra.
The fluke was made out of yoga mat then covered in worbla. I need something durable and waterproof, and this combo worked for me before in the pools with T-Elos. I left draining holes at the bottom of the fluke to release water. A base layer of black gesso was applied, then a blend of green and blue acrylic paint. Then I added some iridescent blue and green paint, with gold sparkle details. Everything was finally coated with PlastiDip to seal.
This was the most awkward costume to pose in since my legs were restricted and the fluke would always float up in water.
