Tia Dalma - Pirates of the Caribbean
Worn at:
Otakon 2011 - Baltimore FanExpo 2011 - Toronto Description: I made an Instructables post about this costume. Read it here. This costume was mostly made of left over materials. The corset has plastic boning and spray-painted tulle over top for the mesh. The trim is dyed and layered cheesecloth. The jacket has a a lace overlay, with curtain sheer and lace sleeves. The skirt: The bottom layer is satin with floral embroidery that was painted red. Next layer is custom dyed cotton, with yarn sewn to look like old floral embroidery. The top layer is cheesecloth dyed, many many times, then painted. It buttoned up in the back. The belt: it has a flexifirm to keep it stiff. Wooden beads along the edges, handmade seashells in the centre and sewn down plastic beads around them. I frayed some cotton to get the fuzz along the edges. Weathering: Everything got aged with a blade or tearing, acrylic paint and dye. Wig: This was a black dreadlocks that I added chocolate brown (big braid) extensions to, along with a few strands of blond. The brown is sewn in at the base and held in place by hairspray and twirling another piece of hair around the dread. I had to cut off a few stands since it was so thick. Makeup: For Otakon Lightpriestess did a wonderful job on my makeup :) Thanks for your help and mad skills.
