Dio Brando - Jojo's Bizzare Adventure

Worn at: Otakuthon 2025 - Montréal
Why this costume? I love this evil diva! It was another opportunity to make a ridiculous costume with the most outrageous fabric. Description: Wig: After failing to restyle my old Aion wig, I then completely overhauled my Mercedes wig, which is a Leia from Arda. I shopped off a lot of the hair and repurposed some to fill in gaps throughout the wig and at the hairline. I spent a lot of time thinning the end of the spike with thinning shears and a razor. The spikes were set with heat and Got2Be glued hairspray. The tips are sealed with Got2Be gel. Collar: I made a leather collar out of scraps I had using a belt buckle. Bodysuit: I used my tried a true K3502 Kwik sew bodysuit pattern and used a 4 way stretch vinyl and inserted a zipper in the back. Belt: I used an old leather belt as a base and glued 1cm thick eva foam to add raised details. The belt was ten covered in spray adhesive and covered in stretch metallic fabric. It closes with a Chicago screw. The hanging belts are fabric tubes with pleather inside to keep the shape since the fabric is floppy. They attach to the main belt chains/lobster clasps and glued down o-rings. Heart accessories: All the hearts details are made with foam and covered in spray adhesive and stretch metallic fabric. After stretching the fabric overtop the excess is cut from the back after the glue has dried and a matching fabric backing is added. The headband and kneecaps straps are tubes of metallic fabric with elastic inside. Bangles: The bracelets have a thin foam base and is covered in 4 rows of half circle dowels. They were bent into shape after being heated with a heat gun. They were then painted gold and covered in gold leaf. The closure is made of pleather stitched into the foam and velcro. The jacket is flatlined with twill to give it more structure and the hems are covered in gold ribbon. Jacket: This jacket was a pain. This metallic fabric is unforgiving since stitch hole are visible if you pick a seam. The shoulders did not cooperate despite me redoing them a few times. One would slouch while the other stay upright like I wanted. I ended up using plastic boning to keep them upright. Pants: I used KwikSew K3363 as a jump off point and converted them into chaps. The fabric is flat lined with another stiffer fabric to give it some structure. I measured out the hem for the pants and made a custom trim out of fabric covered foam that is glued with GemTac to the pants. Shoes: I didn't want to make these so I ordered a pair from AliExpress. |
