This was my first time travelling alone by plane and to New York city no less. I had a great time in the Big Apple. Here are the highlights: Fabric shopping, Times Square, Huge Con, Loads of Goodies, Karaoke, Archery, and Good Friends. Thursday Spandex House I had to take a bus for 2 hours to get to the airport, then a 2 hour wait for my flight, then another 2 hours flying. I got to New York ahead of my roommates so I spent my time shopping in the fabric district which was a few blocks away from our hotel. I bought a lot of spandex and fabric for upcoming 2013 costumes. Once my roommates arrived, we went out for dinner at Ruby Tuesdays, then I helped them do a Katamari shoot in Times Square at midnight. Check out Mai Sheri and Eleventh Photograph Friday Myself and a Jack Sparrow My Tia Dalma was my Friday costume and I was surprised at how many people recognized the character. I spent most of my day exploring the show floor / dealer’s room with Mai Sheri and only scratched the surface. Then we went to shoot with the talented Anna Fisher. This was followed by more show floor browsing. This con is not for the agoraphobic. It can get really crowded, so I would advise against any large awkward costumes. It also has very limited photoshoot locations since there are people everywhere. I had a great dinner with Eleventh Photograph, Quantum Destiny and co at the Shake Shack, their burgers and shakes are delicious. We wrapped up the night by exploring Times Square, the Disney Store, and Toys R Us. Saturday An unstoppable duo I explored the rest of the show floor as Book2 Korra with Mai Sheri and hung out with some American friends. I bought more things than I planned: 3 Avatar comics, Gate7 Vol3, a wig, Manic Panic makeup and the Ergo Proxy series. I had to haul it all around the convention which gave me some seriously sore shoulders by the end of the day. I wrapped up the day with dinner in Koreatown, followed by karaoke and drinks. It was a good night with some bad signing voices. Sunday Casual Sunday I took it easy on Sunday and wore plain clothes since I had to fly back home. I finally got to thoroughly go through the Artist Alley and "the Block" a subsection of the show floor. I tried out the Tomb Raider archery experience. With 3 shots and not having used a bow in years, I'm happy I hit the target twice. Although, having ink covered suction cup arrows didn't help me shoot straight. I wrapped up the day with more fabric shopping, this time with Uxi Cosplay. Too bad most of the stores were closed. Overall NYCC haul I didn't expect to enjoy my trip so much. I love shopping in the fabric district, strolling down the streets of New York, and there is still so much left for me to explore there. I thought NYCC would be a one time trip but it will take all my willpower not to attend next year. P.S. Cellphone reception in the venue is horrible. Pick a time and place to meet people before you enter the con centre.
