Ariel (Original design) - Little Mermaid
Worn at:
Colossalcon 2018 - Sandusky, Ohio Description: Wig: Apple red Luthien provided by Arda with minor styling. Top: I dyed a white bathing suit top purple and embellished it with pearls, beads and gold foiled seashells. Crown: I decked out a plastic headband with a worbla base with some beads and seashells covered in gold foil. Tail & Fluke: (Notes taken from my Ursula costume since I re-used the tail) I bought a tightly packed sequin fabric from Mood. They ran out of the blue/green so I bought the green/gold instead since it matched all the green in her costume anyways. Turns out the sequin also shined blue depending on the angle. It also bought it because it was stretch sequin, however, it didn't stretch width wise which completely defeats the purpose if you ask me. I hand sewed the tail in the car on the way to the convention. I installed 2 zippers: one short one at the waist and a long one from the knees down so that I could walk around between shoots. The tail attached to the fluke by velcro. The fluke was made out of yoga mat then covered in worbla. I need something durable and waterproof, and this combo worked for me before in the pools with T-Elos. I left draining holes at the bottom of the fluke to release water. A base layer of black gesso was applied, then a blend of green and blue acrylic paint. Then I added some iridescent blue and green paint, with gold sparkle details. Everything was finally coated with PlastiDip to seal. New for Ariel: I added iridescent trim (leftover from my Primarina cosplay) at the waist for a nicer transition from woman to fish. |
