Vaporeon (Original Design) - Pokémon
Worn at:
Yeticon 2024 - Collingwood, ON
Why this costume?
I'm carrying on my work with mesh fabric. This time I'm I"m playing with ruching or gathering in a different way than the spiral patterning for Espeon.
I was also very inspired by Kim K's Mugler drip dress that she wore to the MET gala a few years ago.
Description:
Headpiece: I bought a halo crown from Aliexpress and decorated it with beads and wire. The beads are also from AliExpress.
The wig is from Aliexpress
Fins/Ears: The head fins are made with dense foam that was cut into shape. They were painted with acrylic and Golden Interference paint for nice shine. The fins are glued to a plastic headband and the back fin is attached a wire that is attached the headband. It is concealed by wrapping it in ribbon and painting it to match the wig.
Top and Bottoms: The stretch mesh was custom dyed with iDye poly in turquoise. The skirt was made with two channels in the front that match ribbon is fed into to gather the fabric. Similarly the top has two set of channels in the front and back to feed ribbon through to gather the fabric together. The ribbon is then tied around the neck to be held up. The applique were coloured with Copic markers and covered with beads and rhinestones to add depth and sparkle. The appliqués were attached with a quilting foot on the sewing machine.
The skirt is adorned with strung round and teardrop plastic beads that are hand sewn to the skirt and secured with Gemtac.
Gloves: For the gathered gloves I slash and spread a fingerless glove pattern. They attach to my middle finger with some stretch elastic cord. They are adorned with rhinestones from Aliexpress.
Necklace and bracelet: I used a combination of glass beads and plastic bubble beads to make the accessories. They were strung on stretchy jewelry cord.
