Sivir (Chinese Splash Art) - League of Legends
Worn at:
Montreal ComicCon 2016 - Montreal
Why this costume?
I'm a longtime League of Legends fan and there is no denying the lasting power of Sivir. She is a reliable ADC pick and her designs are fun and give me all the right warrior princess vibes. Something about this splash art spoke to, it just screams BAMF! I also wanted to tackle armour and a big prop - I think this is the biggest one I have ever made, although Styria's headpiece is pretty huge.
Description:
Wig: I felt like Wonder Woman rocking a Matilda from Arda in raven. The subtle blue fibres added some extra dimension to the wig. A lace front really sells the look.
Armour:
All armour was made with regular worbla except for the poleyns (knees) were made entirely of black worbla. Yoga mats were mostly used as the base material. The raised trim was made by cutting thick yoga mat on an angle then gluing it to the foam base then covering the entire piece with worbla. Some raised trim was also made with black worbla such as the breastplate. Craft foam was used as the base material for the greaves and gauntlets (shins and arms). The poleyns are attached to the shins by feeding malleable flat wire through two holes in the greaves and fastened by flattening them out. The couter (elbows) are attached using elastics while the pauldrons (shoulders) are attached to a strapped harness (similar to a backpack) that doubles as extra push up. The necklace has chain attaches with ribbon and headpiece has little combs.
Sewing:
The skirt is made of 6 pieces of heavy matte satin attached to a cotton strapping belt. The sleeves are chopped up leggings while the stockings also have remnants of the leggings on top of a a pair of black thigh high socks.
CrossBlade:
The entire piece uses insulation foam (construction foam) as the base material which was then carved into the appropriate shapes and sanded to high heaven. PVC pipe and connectors were used to create an internal structure to hold all the pieces together and make the blades removable. All gem were cast and custom dyed using acrylic ink.
Blades - I used a base coat of self leveling gel as a primer then 2 layers of black gesso before airbrushing on some silver acrylic paint. Blue metallic wrapping paper was used for the glowing/shiny parts and gold spraypainted bristol board were glued down using 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to finish each piece. Rinse and repeat eight time to complete the whole prop.
Centre - The centre piece was made with two layers of one inch foam covered in regular worbla to add extra stability, while black worbla was used as gem bezels.
