Worn at: Otakuthon 2024 - Montreal
Why this costume?: I haven't been this excited about a manga in years. I like Agott's character progression.
The Cape: What a patterning nightmare. The back piece is 3 quarter circle patterns assembled together with French seams since I wasn't lining the cape. The yolk in the back is reinforced with twill to hold the weight of pieces. The teal fabric is a heavy synthetic suiting fabric from Fabricville. There is another reinforced piece with the teal fabric backed with cotton at the front hidden under the front flap to help support the weight of the cape but also to give the white sash (whatever that white piece that goes from the front and hangs to back is). If it was attached to the true front flap it would pull in awkward ways while moving or lifting your arms.
The white sash is two pieces of knit fabric (like thin sweatshirt fabric) with a layer of quilting batting for extra volume. The black line is a lightning stitch to give that quilted look. Black satin ribbons were attach near the arms with hand made pompoms at the ends.
The front flap is back with cotton and under stitched to keep the lining from peaking out. It's also hand stitched down at several points to the hidden front flap underneath. I added fake button holes and stitched on the buttons.
The black collar is made with cotton and fusible interfacing for structure. It is a faux collar that is hand stitched to the cape and closes with snaps in the back.
I forgot about the two black stripes on the front so I had to hand stitch those on in the hotel room with ribbon I found at the Dollarama.
Hat: The structure is made with buckram and it's covered with the teal suiting fabric that reinforced with fusible interfacing. The white flap is also made of the knit fabric used for the sash. I also made a white fabric covered button to attach to the hat. I added some gold metal filigree to the hat and attached a few beads and tassel to hat.
Skirt: I made a simple elastic waist skirt with about 60in of fabric
Other: For the dress shirt I reused a dress I got for Morana and tucked it under my other skirt. I'm debating whether I actually want to make the shirt since I ran out of time to make it for Otakuthon 2024. Leggings and shoes are from my closet
